04.2.2018 | FCC Consumer Alert: 'Neighbor Spoofing'

The FCC is warning consumers about "neighbor spoofing" scams where thieves manipulate caller ID information in ways that make calls appear to have been placed locally.

06.21.2018 | Nexus Scheduled Outage for Planned Upgrade

On Thursday, June 21, Nexus will be upgraded to version 3.4 to improve functionality and enable new features for your use this Fall term. Services will be offline from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm ET. During this period of time, you will not be able to access the system.

07.10.2018 | Nexus 2012-13 courses scheduled for deletion

ITS retains LMS courses in Nexus on a rolling five (5) year basis from the end of the term a course is taught, as per the Learning Management System (LMS) Course Retention Policy. On July 10th, ITS will remove course sites more than five (5) years old. (i.e., Summer, 2012, Fall 2012, Winter 2013, Spring 2013 term courses). Exemptions to the policy are handled on a case-by-case basis (contact snyderd2@union.edu).

Security researchers have discovered a vulnerability, named the Heartbleed bug, in many online encryption systems used around the world (OpenSSL encryption).  This vulnerability affects the security of servers which handle encryption between computers, like when you connect using https to banking websites and a majority of websites where you are using passwords and private data.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2014 Apple released a patch to fix the vulnerability in OS X that we previously reported to the campus community. This patch should be installed immediately on your Mac OS X computers.

On Friday, February 21, 2014 Apple released a patch to iOS 6 and 7 to fix a vulnerability in the way SSL is handled. These patches should be installed immediately on your iOS devices.

This message may appear to come from a colleague who claims to be sharing a document via Google Docs. The link actually goes to an entirely different website and asks for your Gmail credentials. As with other phishing emails, be wary of unfamiliar links and generic sounding emails. If you weren't expecting a "very important document", check with the colleague before trying to open it.

ITS would like to warn the community of the prevalence of an up and coming form of malware.  Ransomware is malware that criminals install on your computer so they can lock it from a remote location.

This messsage claims to be from UPS about a package delivery. Do not click on the link in the email. If you're concerned that a package your expected may actually be held up somehow, call UPS or the sender. Click here for a sample email.

This message, possibly appearing as though it comes from a friend, claims that the sender is trapped in another country and has lost all their money and password. They request that you send them money to help out. Click here for an example.

Both variations of this message claim to be from the Help Desk. One claimed that you're over your email quota (click here for an example of this message).

This message claims to be from Amazon.com and had several variations on what type of order was being confirmed. Always be suspicious of orders you didn't place. Never click on the links in the email or use the phone numbers they provide. If you're concerned that someone really is using your account without your permission, call their listed phone number or visit their website.

This message states that it comes from the Help Desk claiming that your account was accessed by someone else. Click here for the sample email.
