Students

ITS' Learning Technologies & Environments welcomes you to the iPad Course Reserve loaner program! Within this document we will go over basic functionality of the iPad. We aim to give you an introduction to the device so you can make the most out of your class time.

Navigation: Opening an application [or app] is done by simply touching the icon. Each app will have it’s own way of organization. Take the time to explore the different menus within the program before using it fully. Some apps will even guide you through their navigation the first time you use it. Your instructor will take care of individual applications that are being used for class time. We are only here to orientate you to the iPad.

As far as the base iPad goes there is little you need to be worried with. One of the important features is the Control Panel. To access it is easy, just swipe up from the bottom of the iPad’s screen and you’ll be met with the following:

This is an intuitive interface where you can adjust volume, screen brightness, load the camera and turn on a variety of useful features.

You may notice that a collection of apps are placed into their own boxes called Folders. These folders are categorized by the apps within them they include: productivity applications, apps used in communicating, multimedia production, e-reading, blended Learning, geospatial apps, digital storytelling, quizzing, and reference apps. These apps can be accessed by simply clicking on the named folder they are within.

If for at any time you see the applications begin to wiggle on the home screen, simply press the home buttonhttp://ifixitmobiles.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/home-button-black.jpgand the applications will stop shaking, allowing you to use the iPad normally.

If you can not find what you are looking for on the iPad, then simply swipe down from the center of the iPad’s screen to bring up Spotlight. Here you can search for anything on the iPad:

Remember: The iPad is an intuitive device built with the idea of touch in mind, because of this your intuition with the iPad will carry you far when interacting with the iPad!
